Parent Talk Night
Children like having
their parents at meetings, and in this case the parents are teachers, too. Many parents are good at selling, speaking
and dealing with the public. You can take advantage of this resource and train
your Scouts in the finer points of salesmanship.
Leader: Let your
Scouts know you are looking for any parents that would help out with a short speech to the boys on a meeting night before
or during the sale period. When you get feedback from the boys or the parents,
plan a meeting where they have an opportunity to give the boys the benefit of their advice; it could be on selling, why the
popcorn sale is important, or on anything related to popcorn or salesmanship.
Try to keep the
individual presentations to five minutes each. Make sure each speaker gets a nice round of applause.
Reflection: Ask
the boys if they learned anything. Ask the parents if they learned anything.
