First the Safety precautions when
going door to door:
1) Nobody
sells alone! This is a definite Buddy System situation, preferably a Parent and a Scout
2) Think
of this as a treasure hunt, you need a map. Leave one! Someone at home should know exactly where you plan on going, what streets and in what order.
3) NEVER
enter someones home that you do not know. I do not care how bad you need the
restroom. Be polite knock on the door and stay a few steps away from the door,
so it doesnt hit you when it opens, and you are harder to reach by the person standing in it.
4)
Be visible; go when it is light out, do not go into areas where you will not be seen. Avoid houses with high hedges, or fences that block your view of the sidewalk. If you can not see the front door from the sidewalk, then you can not be seen from the sidewalk.
Courtesy Applies on the
Take Order sale; Hello, Please, Thank You, Have a Nice Day, they all work here. The
same script applies as on the Show and Sell, avoid the No triggers. (click here)
1. Be
prepared and have a pencil or pen with your order form, have your receipt ready to hand to the customer, get all the information
on the order form.
2. Wear
your uniform, have your ID card with you, BE POLITE!
3. If
your unit is asking that orders be paid for at the time of sale make sure that you have change and a receipt with the Popcorn
Coaches phone number on it, not the Scouts.
Having a receipt puts your customers at ease.
They feel more confident that a product will actually be delivered to them. A
phone number gives them someone to ask questions of or contact if the product has not shown up.
Remember the Take Order
form is portable. You can take it to work, school, soccer or baseball game, church,
club meetings, pretty much anywhere that there will be people who eat.
